I am not saying I am not coming back- MS Dhoni, as CSK wins their last game against Gujarat Titans

In the 67th match of IPL 2025, the Chennai Super Kings humiliated the table toppers Gujarat Titans, in their own home ground, Ahmedabad. CSK, led by MS Dhoni, probably for the last time, ended this disappointing season with a big win. MS won the toss and elected to bat first against a strong Gujarat Titans bowling line-up up and the CSK batter pulled off their best batting performance of this season and scored 230 runs in just 20 overs. Man of the match Dewald Brevis scored the highest 53 off just 23 balls and announced to the whole world that he is the future of CSK. In response, the Gujarat Titans only managed to score 147 in 18.3 overs as their top order and middle order were completely destroyed by the CSK bowlers. The talk of the town was an Uncapped Indian batter who was retained by CSK for 4 crores ahead of the auction named Mahendra Singh Dhoni and was this the last time we were seeing him play the Indian legend once again found out a witty way to answer this question and neither confirmed nor denied his participation in the upcoming season.

The MSD interview

MS Dhoni, the man who paints the city yellow, irrespective of where he travels. The fans wait for a year just to see the man play in the IPL. MSD is the most successful captain in the IPL, and after a disappointing season, when asked if he would play the next season, the Indian legend said

Dhoni on IPL Future: 'Not Saying I'm Done, Not Saying I'm Coming Back'-VYGR

“"It's good to finish on a good note. This was one of our perfect performances. I think the fielding and the catching, throughout the season, we have caught really well.
It depends, I am going to say the same thing. I have 4-5 months to decide and there's no hurry to decide as to what needs to be done. Every year it requires more effort. Not to forget, this is top level cricket. You have to be at your best.
It's not always performance that you can count on. If players retired based on performances, few of them will retire by 22. So it's important to see how much hunger you have, what kind of fitness you have and how much you can contribute to the team, whether the team needs you or not.
I have enough time. I'll go back to Ranchi. I haven't been home for a long time. I'll enjoy a few bike rides and decide after a few months.
I am not saying l'm done. I am not saying I am coming back at the same time. I have the luxury of timing. If you have the timing, then why not think about it and decide.
When we started this season, we played the first four home games where we won the toss and decided to bat second, there was a bit of due and it became difficult to bat second and that sucked the confidence away from the batters. From that point, it became slightly difficult for us to come back. So I was more worried about the batting department, because at the end of the day you have to score runs. Now looking at everyone contributing, we look like a side who can put some runs on the board and the bowling becomes slightly easy. Yes there are still a few holes that we would like to fill. But one of the most important thing is that when Rutu comes back next season, we will be able to give him a team where he needs to just fit one or two in the playing XI and not worry about too many things.
You feel old. Not to forget, we have Andre who sits next to me on the bus. He is exactly 25 years younger than me and that makes me go "Oh, I am seriously old!"

What's next for CSK?

MS Dhoni becomes the first wicketkeeper to claim 200 dismissals in IPL | IPL 2025 -VYGR

CSK has had two very bad IPL seasons according to their standards, and this time they have finished 10th in the points table, their worst position in the history of the IPL. Fleming and Captain Ruturaj will be hoping for a better season next year, and CSK has shown glimpses of what to expect from them next season. This performance against Gujarat was their best performance. Inclusion of young talented players like Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre makes the future of CSK look bright, but the biggest question before the next season will once again be that “will the Uncapped Indian wicket-keeper batsman named MS Dhoni return for the next season?”
