Stuart MacGill, a former Australian cricketer who has played 44 Test matches, has been arrested by police in Sydney on Tuesday following an investigation into allegations of a large-scale cocaine supply ring, as BBC reported.
The former spinner has not yet entered a plea in the case but has previously denied any involvement in the drug trade. In an interview following the alleged abduction, MacGill said "I've done nothing wrong" and police at the time said he was "purely" a victim. MacGill stated in an interview after the alleged kidnapping that "I haven't done anything wrong" and at the time, police stated that he was a "victim".
Following a two-year investigation, police have now accused MacGill of having participated in the sale of a substantial amount of a prohibited drug. According to local media outlets, the alleged transaction involved over $300,000 worth of cocaine.
Now he has been released on bail and will return to court on 26 October.
MacGill was once the second-ranked bowler in the world, behind his teammate Shane Warne, and played for the Australian national team as a spinner from 1998 to 2008.
