FC Barcelona recently held a grand gala at the historic Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona to celebrate its 125th Anniversary. Some 2,000 guests-athletes, club legends, and important figures from various institutions-had congregated to honor the glorious history of this footballing institution.
A Night to Remember
The red-carpet event welcomed guests with camera flashes and an electric atmosphere as they entered. David Carabén, the lead singer for the band Mishima and also one of the founders, took the evening into his own hands to launch it by delivering an impressive speech that summed up what FC Barcelona was. The gala featured Aleix Santacana, the announcer from Spotify Camp Nou, who took everyone on a nostalgic journey back to the club's founding on November 29, 1899, by Joan Gamper and his friends.
Celebrating Club Legends
Current president Joan Laporta presented stories from the club history of the past 125 years, with all their commitment toward sports and culture, Catalan identity. This was a really funny and emotive night during which actors Jordi Ríos and Toni Albà performed impressive comic impersonations of football legends like Johan Cruyff. There was also a message from football stars Leo Messi, Andrés Iniesta, and Carles Puyol in the gala by video tributes celebrating their connection to FC Barcelona. There was also the introduction of a new mascot and anthem.
Among the events, the new mascot called CAT, which was especially created for the anniversary, was introduced. The mascot added much energy to the stage, even taking selfies with some of the club's young stars. Another new anthem was launched, L'Escut al Pit, chosen through a fan vote. The song embodies unity and pride for all Barça fans.
Sports Honored
While football is at the core of FC Barcelona, other sports like basketball and handball were also recognized in this gala. Legends from these teams were celebrated for their contribution to the club's success.
The event concluded with an impressive cake-cutting ceremony led by Laporta, symbolizing unity and hope for the future. The night was capped off with a film showcasing FC Barcelona's impact on sports and society over its storied history.
