Wolves stun Chelsea 4-2 with Cunha hat-trick
A stunning hat-trick by Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers once again laid bare Chelsea's defensive vulnerabilities as the away team orchestrated a remarkable comeback to secure a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Despite Chelsea's recent 4-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, they took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Cole Palmer. However, their advantage was short-lived as, just two minutes later, Joao Gomes connected with his Brazilian compatriot Cunha, whose shot deflected significantly off Chelsea's defender Thiago Silva.
Wolves doubled their lead just before halftime when a shot struck Axel Disasi and was credited as an own goal, catching Chelsea's goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic off guard.
Cunha extended the lead to 3-1 in the middle of the second half, seizing an opportunity after Pedro Neto exploited a break in Chelsea's defense. In the 82nd minute, Cunha completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after being fouled by defender Malo Gusto.
Though Brazilian Silva managed to score a consolation header with only four minutes of regular time remaining, a considerable number of home supporters had already started leaving the stadium by then.
Arsenal beats Liverpool 3-1 to ignite title race
Arsenal turned the Premier League title race on its head with a thrilling 3-1 victory over leaders Liverpool, fueled by Gabriel Martinelli capitalizing on a blunder from goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
In a high-stakes match at the vibrant Emirates Stadium, Bukayo Saka opened the scoring early for Mikel Arteta's team. However, a bizarre own goal by Gabriel Magalhaes leveled the score for Liverpool just before halftime.
The pivotal moment came in the second half when Alisson's shocking clearance miss allowed Martinelli to slot the ball into the net, much to the delight of the raucous Arsenal fans. Leandro Trossard sealed the deal in stoppage time, securing three crucial points after Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate received a late red card.
This significant win propelled Arsenal to second place, trailing Liverpool by only two points after 23 games each. The defeat was Liverpool's first in domestic competitions since September, providing a boost to Manchester City, who are now five points behind but have two games in hand.
Arsenal's victory showcased their determination to compete for the title, especially after faltering in the previous season. Without Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners displayed the championship mentality, with Saka's early goal setting the tone for a relentless performance.
The equalizer gifted to Liverpool by Arsenal's defensive error was turned around in the second half when Alisson's mistake allowed Martinelli to score, leaving Jurgen Klopp's side stunned.
This triumph marked a crucial statement of intent from Arsenal in their pursuit of a first league title since 2004, underlining their resilience and ability to capitalize on key moments.
