While Rohit and Kohli have already set several ODI individual records, they will have a fantastic opportunity on Wednesday to break a batting duo world record. Only two more runs will distinguish Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the quickest duo to 5000 runs in ODIs. Together, they have scored 4998 runs in 85 innings for an average of 62.47 runs per inning. In ODI cricket history, they are the only team to have scored more than 4,000 runs at an average of more than 60. Partnerships from the 18th century have been put together.
The West Indies' Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes now hold the record for the quickest duo to achieve 5000 ODI runs in 97 innings, but Rohit and Kohli will surpass them if they score the final two runs in the third ODI on Wednesday. Following them are Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist of Australia (104) and Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka (105).
Rohit is notably a part of the Indian team that has scored 5000 ODI runs the fastest right now. In 112 innings, he accomplished it alongside Shikhar Dhawan.
In addition, Rohit and Kohli will become the first Indian team other than the opening pair to reach 5000 runs in an ODI. The global record for most runs scored together in ODIs belongs to Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly; they have 8227 runs in 176 innings.
