The first thriller of IPL 2026 delivered high drama as Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in a closely fought contest.

Although the team winning the toss ultimately won the match, it remained uncertain till the final over.

Prasidh Krishna bowled a brilliant spell for Gujarat Titans, while Ashok Sharma delivered an economical and wicket-taking 18th over.

However, it was Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly who stole the show on his debut for Punjab Kings.

He remained unbeaten from start to finish and played a match-winning knock.

Despite Punjab Kings investing heavily in Glenn Maxwell over the years, it was the debutant Cooper Connolly who proved to be the real star of the team in this thrilling IPL 2026 encounter.
