Coco Gauff, a 19-year-old American teenager, defeated Aryna Sabalenka and claimed her first Grand Slam victory. Coco also created history by becoming the first American teen to win the US Open crown since Serena Williams in 1999.
Coco Gauff won with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Aryna Sabalenka, and collected the $3 million champion's check. Coco played against Sabalenka's one-sided opening sets and her unrivalled power, and she turned the tide with her relentless coverage of the court. She ranged her serves perfectly, and her groundstrokes were deep, which helped her tremendously at the end. She still attacked at times, picking her spots, but the key turnaround was her increased depth, and she was perfectly in tune with her tactics by the final set. According to her, when she lost the first set, she was still in the match and wanted to give it her all.
Coco Gauff said that Venus and Serena Williams were her inspiration and are the reason why she has this trophy today, to be honest, because they have allowed her to believe in this dream and made it so believable.
Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka's hard day's work did not pay off in the way she was hoping for. Sabalenka had lost the two previous US Open semifinals and was fighting her emotions as another match slipped away. Even so, despite the defeat, she is arguably the best player this season on the WTA Tour, and she is soon to be the New World No. 1.
Sabalenka said that becoming world No. 1 is a huge improvement and achievement. She is really proud of herself that all those years that she has been working so hard have helped her become World No. 1.
