Djokovic vanquishes Fritz, advances to the semi-finals.
Novak Djokovic maintained his determination and dominance against Taylor Fritz after he sealed his spot in the semi-finals. Djokovic overcame a significant challenge to defeat the American, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday evening.
Djokovic faced a great test in this encounter even though he has won all eight of his previous matches against Fritz. Djokovic has won the five-setter matches against the American in 2021 Melbourne Park and in the US Open last year.
Djokovic in total hit nine aces and Fritz managed to save eight break points. The Serbian hit brilliant cross-court winners and claimed the first set in 84 minutes. He also uplifted the game after an intense tie-break,
Fritz broke Djokovic’s serve in the second set and went on to level the set with Djokovic.
Given the temperatures in Melbourne, Australia, both the players needed some cooling off and Djokovic was seen with a few ice packs on his head during the third set. Djokovic was trying his best to break Fritz but was just unable to, but after numerous attempts he finally broke Fritz and secured a 2-0 lead. This pushed Djokovic and he went on to clinch the set.
During the fourth set, Fritz was seen struggling a little with his toe movement and this made the World No.1 capitalize the moment and he broke Fritz’s serve in the sixth game. Despite the agony Fritz was facing, he did not seem to give up, he played some fantastic shots but fell short of the victory line. Djokovic emerged as the winner after he showcased some amazing tennis skills and resilience on the court.
The Serbian will take on either Jannik Sinner or Andrey Rublev in the semi-final.
