Australia regains ICC ODI top spot from Pakistan

On Saturday, September 9, Australia defeated Pakistan to unseat Pakistan and reclaim the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings. Australia reclaimed first place after crushing South Africa by 123 runs in the second one-day international of the five-match series.

Australia easily defeated South Africa by 123 runs in the second one-day international game on Saturday in Bloemfontein. With this victory, Australia now leads the five-match series 2-0 as both sides prepare for the forthcoming World Cup in India later this month.

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne excelled, contributing significantly to Australia's impressive score of 392-8. Warner put on a stunning display, smashing 106 runs off just 93 balls and establishing the tone for Australia's innings. After initially being passed over for the World Cup roster, Labuschagne showed his value by scoring an astounding 124 runs off 99 balls. He won the Man of the Match award for the second time thanks to his effort, which came after his match-winning 80 not out in the series opener.

Warner and Travis Head got the Australian innings off to a great start with a rapid 64 runs off 36 balls before getting caught by David Miller off Tabraiz Shamsi's bowling. Australia kept moving forward despite losing their skipper Mitchell Marsh to Shamsi's subsequent delivery. In a stand that included 19 fours and a six, Warner and Labuschagne combined 151 runs for the third wicket, giving Warner his 20th ODI century and Labuschagne his second.

A quick 50 off 37 balls from Josh Inglis helped Australia get further closer to their record goal against South Africa in 2006. The South African bowlers labored the entire time, helpless to stop the Australian assault.

With 81 put up for the first wicket by Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma, South Africa's pursuit got off to a promising start. However, Bavuma for 46 and Heinrich Klaasen for 49 were important victims of Adam Zampa's potent wrist spin. Nathan Ellis' lbw dismissal of David Miller for 49 decreased South Africa's prospects of winning. In the 42nd over, they were eventually dismissed for 269 runs.

On Tuesday at Potchefstroom, the third ODI between the two teams will occur.
