Asia Cup Super-4 matches may be moved to Hambantota due to Colombo flooding

The notorious weather in Colombo has caused problems for the Asia Cup 2023, which Sri Lanka and Pakistan are co-hosting. The heavy rains in the Sri Lankan capital have led to a change in venue for the Super Four matches of the tournament. Hambantota has replaced Colombo as the second venue for the Super Four stage, with all matches except the first one scheduled to take place in Lahore.

Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium was initially supposed to host five matches of the Asia Cup in the Super Four stage, including the final on September 17. However, due to the unpredictable weather, the matches had to be moved to Hambantota.

Despite September not being considered a rainy month in Colombo, the city witnessed a washout of the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan. The match was abandoned due to rain, and points were shared between the two teams. Another match between India and Nepal also faced delays due to rain in Pallekele.

However, India managed to overcome the rain breaks and secure a comfortable 10-wicket win over Nepal in their crucial group match. Half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill contributed to India's victory. With this win, India has advanced to the Super Four stage along with arch-rivals Pakistan. The two teams will face each other for the second time in the tournament on Sunday.
