After just one inning of play on Saturday, rain forced the blockbuster Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan to end in a tie.
Pakistan bowled out India for 266 in 48.5 overs as a result of the persistent rain in Pallekele, with pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi posting figures of 4-35.
After winning their opening encounter in the 50-over competition, Pakistan under Babar Azam qualified for the Super Four round of the game. This was a vital showdown before the World Cup in India later this year.
On Saturday, the points were distributed.
For a brief period, the rain stopped, and ground personnel removed the covers as the umpires contemplated lowering Pakistan's goal. But again another set of storms put a halt to the match.
India will play Nepal, who are competing in their first Asia Cup, on Tuesday at the same site.
In their opening game of the competition, India decided to bat but fell to 66-4 after a devastating opening delivery by left-arm fast Shaheen. Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (87) responded in a partnership of 138 to give their team a battling total, but rain eventually got the last word following the third interruption of play.
By bowling both batters, Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma, who were both important targets, Shaheen upended the opposition's batting order.
Fellow quicks Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah provided effective support for Shaheen, each taking three wickets.
In a reversal of roles, Pandya and the left-handed Kishan blasted the opposition bowlers with boundaries.
Shaheen's two-over attempt to break the partnership was unsuccessful, and when Kishan completed his fifty, the crowd erupted in wild cheers, frustrating Pakistan, whose fielding on the ground remained appalling.
Shaheen had earlier been hit by Rohit for a few fours, but after a 33-minute break, the fast bowler struck back, dismissing the Indian captain for 11.
The mostly Indian crowd fell silent when Kohli (4) inside-edged a delivery toward his stumps.
As India slid to 48-3 and quickly lost opener Shubman Gill for 10 following a second rain delay, Rauf bowled the returning Shreyas Iyer.
In addition, following Kishan's 81-ball innings, which included nine fours and two sixes, he ultimately returned the batsman with the catch. Before losing to Shaheen, Pandya persevered in the fight and hit three boundaries off Rauf in one over.
The duration of the Indian innings was 48.5 overs, with number 10 Jasprit Bumrah scoring 16 runs before being dismissed by Naseem.
After the return of the rain, which ultimately had the last word, the ground crew covered the field as players exited for the inning break.
