Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam made history by clinching three gold medals, while Aditi Swami added a bronze to India's remarkable archery performance at the Asian Games.
India's previous best archery haul was three medals at Incheon 2014, but this time around, they shattered expectations with a historic nine medals. Aditi Swami, the reigning world champion, kicked off the day with a dominant performance against Indonesia's Ratih Zilizati Fadhly, securing a bronze for India. Despite dropping four points, the 17-year-old Indian emerged victorious with a score of 146-140.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who had already claimed gold in the mixed pair and women's team events, completed an extraordinary hat-trick of gold medals by defeating her formidable South Korean opponent, So Chaewon, with a score of 149-145. Overwhelmed by her achievement, Jyothi said, "I feel short of words, and a whirlwind of emotions is rushing through me. I need some time to process this."
In a showdown between the master and the apprentice, 21-year-old reigning world champion Ojas Deotale proved her mettle by outscoring her 34-year-old opponent with a score of 149-147. Deotale, who had also secured the World Championship title in Berlin, delivered an almost flawless performance, dropping just one point in her victory. The Indian archers' historic feat will be remembered as a defining moment in their sporting careers.
