Monster Toad Alert! Australian Rangers Discover 2.7 kg "Todzilla" - Is Your Town Next?

Giant Cane Toad

A "giant" cane toad weighing 2.7 kilos (6 pounds) was discovered by Australian park rangers at a Queensland coastal park. Wildlife workers were driving through the park when they were forced to stop by a snake slithering across a trail. The snake was a warty brown specimen as long as a human arm.

The toad was put to death since it was an invasive species, and because of its size, experts assumed it was female. Although the toad's exact age is unclear, it is thought to survive up to 15 years in the wild. Female cane toads can lay up to 30,000 eggs in a season and are so venomous that they have driven several of their native predators extinct.
