In first ever, Aurora spotted in Ladakh

The Indian Astronomical Observatory above Mount Saraswati captured a mesmerizing Aurora on 22-23 April. It's said to be the rarest thing that has happened till date, as the aurora generally doesn't appear at such a lower altitude. A 360 degree camera in Ladakh Hanel captured this beautiful interaction of particles, total scientific reaction with astonishing view.

Aurora in Ladakh

Aurora generally appears when particles from the solar wind crash into the Earth's magnetic field as in, to atoms of oxygen and nitrogen from Earth's atmosphere. And it generally creates colourful glowing lights around the pole. Therefore, aurora are generally witnessed in countries like Norway, Canada and Alaska. This time it happened in Ladakh due to a coronal mass ejection. It's the process of clouds full of energy and magnetic plasma from solar enters in space, caused radio magnetic disturbance. This CME with a speed of 500/600 km/s came in contact with M1 class solar flare. This CME arrived on earth late on 23 April, resulted into the emergence of vibrant colours like blue, pink, green.

This was indeed a great treat for tourists of Ladakh, who witnessed this rarest thing happened after 2015. Scientists from different countries said that such a rare phenomenon last happened in 2015. Our nature is something which is really very unpredictable thing but we must appreciate the changes that happen in nature as it gives us something new to experience every time.
