China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has claimed "sovereignty" over Arunachal Pradesh, stating that it is a part of China's territory, after India rejected China's attempt to rename places in the region. China's Ministry of Civil Affairs had released the names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh, referring to it as "Zangnan, the southern part of Tibet," which India rejected outright. Arindam Bagchi, the Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson, asserted that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and that China's attempts to assign invented names to places in the region will not alter this reality.
The White House has also strongly opposed China's attempt to rename localities in Arunachal Pradesh, stating that it recognises the region as Indian territory. According to the Global Times, this is the third batch of geographical names announced by China's Ministry of Civil Affairs in Arunachal Pradesh.
