Vygr Maharashtra: Shinde-Thackeray factions in a poster war in Mumbai

On Monday, Mumbai will host two Shiv Sena foundation day celebrations for the first time in the organization's 57-year history.

The two gatherings will be put on by the opposing factions of Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray.

Additionally, this would be the first Foundation Day celebration since Shinde and 39 other party MLAs switched sides against the then-chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on June 20, 2022, causing the party to split.

Since that time, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who established the government with the help of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been given the party's name and the "bow and arrow" symbol.

Similar to the two Dussehra gatherings, Uddhav and Shinde are likely to make their remarks almost simultaneously in the evening, in what is anticipated to be a display of one-upmanship for claiming Bal Thackeray's heritage and ideas.

While the Shiv Sena (UBT) will host their event in Shanmukhanand Hall in Sion in central Mumbai, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena will have its rally at the NESCO ground in Goregaon in northwest Mumbai. Both sides identify themselves as the real Shiv Sena.

“Many tried to finish Shiv Sena but every time it came back strongly. Shiv Sena came to power in Maharashtra and Delhi only because of Balasaheb Thackeray. Nobody can steal Balasaheb Thackeray ideology,” Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut told reporters.

According to Shrikant Shinde, son of Eknath Shinde, on Monday, workers from all over Maharashtra will gather at Nesco Ground to demonstrate their might.

Bal Thackeray, a supporter of the cause of the Sons of the Soil, established the Shiv Sena in 1966. Thackeray then adopted Hindutva, and in 1995, he first partnered with the BJP to create a government.

After Thackeray passed away in 2012, his son Uddhav took the reins of the party until Shinde vertically split it into two sections. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress were both members of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which also comprised the Uddhav group.
