The budget session of Karnataka assembly begins today, on 3rd July. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot addressed the joint session and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the budget in the assembly on 7th July as he also handles the finance portfolio.
Till today’s session, the BJP was unable to declare its leader in the lower house.
The main focus of the budget session will be 5 schemes that Congress announced before polls and two of them Congress implemented after polls. The Shakti scheme, which is about free bus services for women, and the Anna Bhagya scheme, which gives 10kg of free rice to below poverty line families are implemented successfully, whereas Yuva Nidhi (scheme for unemployed youths), Gruha Lakshmi (Rs. 2000 for APL/BPL card holder women) and Gruh Jyoti (200 units free electricity) these schemes are yet to be implemented. The budget is about Rs. 3.35 lakh crore and 60,000 crore will be part of these 5 schemes.
Also, there are chances of previous acts being discussed to continue during Congress' tenure, like Karnataka Prevention of slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020, Karnataka Land Reforms Act and Agriculture Produce Marketing Act 2020.
This budget session will be quite interesting as it's the first ever budget session after Congress gained power in Karnataka this year.
