On Sunday, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Indian delegation for hosting the G20 ministerial. “I would like to thank Finance Minister Sitharaman and the Indian delegation for hosting the G20 ministerial," she said.
Ahead of her meeting with finance ministers of G20 countries at Mahatma Mandir in Gujarat, addressing the media, Yellen said, “Ahead of the Leaders’ Summit in September, this week’s convening offers us an opportunity to take stock of what we’ve done – and to redouble our efforts to strengthen the global economy, support emerging and developing economies, and tackle global challenges."
She also expressed her enthusiasm for advancing the recent developments in US-China relations when finance ministers from several countries meet in India in the coming days to discuss the world's economic concerns.
The G-7 countries are meeting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, prior to the Group of 20 meetings with an emphasis on supporting Ukraine, reforming multilateral development banks, and reexamining the global supply chain.
Yellen expressed her commitment on Sunday to work with China on mutual interest areas. She made specific mention of the necessity of collaboration in debt restructuring for economically disadvantaged nations.
In remarks ahead of a G-20 finance chiefs meeting, Yellen said, “I am eager to build on the groundwork that we laid in Beijing to mobilize further action.” She mentioned that her last week’s visit to Beijing put the relationship between the two biggest economies on “surer footing."
The Reserve Bank of India, on Saturday, said in a statement, the two memorandum of understanding will facilitate “seamless cross border transactions and payments, and foster greater economic cooperation between the two countries."
