Smriti saw, Hema didnt - The mystery of Rahul Gandhi's flying kiss

On August 9, Rahul Gandhi gave his first address in the Lok Sabha following his return as an MP. He didn't stay in the House to listen to the reply, as he had an event in Rajasthan scheduled for three in the afternoon. He repeated the move reminiscent of his well-known hug and wink during the previous vote of no confidence in the PM Modi administration in 2018 as he left the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi is believed to have blown a flying kiss as he left.

Following an alleged flying kiss gesture made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi towards BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Smriti Irani, and numerous other BJP MPs expressed their severe objection.

Smriti Irani, without directly mentioning Rahul Gandhi's name, denounced the act by stating, “Only a misogynistic man can exhibit the gesture of a flying kiss towards female parliamentarians. This action sheds light on the lineage he originates from and reflects the attitude his family and party hold towards women." Such behavior had never before been seen in the country's Parliament, according to Smriti Irani. BJP has questioned the appropriateness of the behavior.

Hema Malini, a BJP MP and actor, was heard saying she could not see the Congress MP's gesture in a video published on social media by Indian Youth Congress president BV Srinivas.

The reporter asks the BJP MP from Mathura, “Did you see him blow that flying kiss which you found inappropriate, obscene?" To which she replied, "I don't know. I could not see that. Some words were not correct".

“I didn't see any flying kiss: Hema Malini Ji. But she has also signed on that fabricated complaint”, Srinivas posted on X, the platform which was formerly known as Twitter.
