Sanctions-hit Russia has proposed to manufacture its Sukhoi Superjet civil aircraft in India as part of its aggressive import substitution strategy, and the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is in discussions with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited about this (HAL).
According to Yury B. Slyusar, director general of UAC, the Superjet will be produced in Russia using Russian components, and the Sukhoi Superjet International will be produced in India using foreign components. He pointed out that the Sukhoi Corporation's 100-seater Superjet 100 could be the first civil aircraft made in India that satisfies national aviation authorities' requirements.
