Sameer Wankhede, an ex-NCB officer, and four others are under investigation for alleged corruption by the CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started a corruption investigation against Sameer Wankhede, a former member of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), who had apprehended Aryan Khan, the son of famous Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, in connection with an alleged drug-related incident on May 12th. The accusation levied against Wankhede and four other individuals is that they requested a payment of Rs 25 crore from the Cordelia ship proprietors, who were the ones from whom Aryan Khan was apprehended, in exchange for some sort of favorable treatment. The CBI has conducted searches at Wankhede's premises in Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, and Kanpur, and registered a first information report against him. In May 2022, Khan was given a clean chit by the NCB's special investigation team (SIT) due to insufficient evidence, and the SIT alleged that Wankhede's investigation had flaws. During the raid on the cruise ship, the NCB seized drugs and cash, and 17 people, including Aryan Khan, were taken into custody. The Indian Express reported that Wankhede was accused of conducting an inadequate investigation, and Vishwa Vijay Singh, who had led a team to Shah Rukh Khan's residence in connection with the probe, was part of his team. In May 2022, Wankhede was relocated to Chennai's Directorate General of Taxpayer Services.
