Parliament Monsoon Session Stalled - Opposition united against PM's silence on Manipur

The parliament failed to function smoothly even today. It remained adjourned most of the time on day 3, as the opposition tried to corner the NDA government on the suspension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh and PM Modi's silence on the Manipur issue.

PM lashes out at the Opposition during the first meeting of BJP MPs in the monsoon session. Calling out on the opposition front India, PM said, "British India Company, Indian Mujahideen, and Popular Front of India all have India in their name."

Following the PM's statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, "We are talking about Manipur, the Prime Minister is calling ‘INDIA’ as ‘East India Company’ outside the House! Congress party has always been with ‘Mother India,’ i.e. ‘Bharat Mata." (Add tweet below)

PM Modi, during his address to the BJP MPs, also highlighted that countries like the US and France have faith in NDA. The PM said, "That is why they are signing agreements with us."

Condemning PM Modi's silence on the Manipur issue, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Call us whatever you want, Mr Modi. We are INDIA. We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur.”

Vice President (VP) Jadeep Dhankar suspended AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Monday from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining duration of the monsoon session.

Sanjay Singh was heckling Union Minister Piyush Goyal during the business advisory

committee meeting and tried to violate the directives of the chair.

Several leaders, including Derek O'Brien and Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, have urged the PM to make a suo-moto comment on the Manipur issue.

Actress and Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachan, says, "Manipur is being discussed

internationally, but not in our country."

Home Minister Amit Shah today said in the parliament that the government is ready for a discussion. Still, the opposition is not creating an environment in which a conversation can take place.

On Monday, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla also agreed to a discussion on the Manipur issue while adding that the opposition cannot decide "who will speak on which matter."

Parliament has been adjourned and suspended several times after protests from the opposition inside and out. Leaders of the opposition parties raise slogans like "Prime Minister, come to the Parliament" and "Save Manipur."

The final monsoon session of the Parliament, before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is supposed to take up more than 30 bills, including the personal data protection bill 2023.

But, the opposition continues to stall the parliament over the May 4 footage, which shows gory details of a nescient mob outraging the modesty of two Kuki women.
