The Prime Ministers' Memorial and Museum Library (PMML) was renamed the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML), which has drawn considerable criticism from the Congress party. Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of the Congress, charged that the Narendra Modi administration was attempting to destroy Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy and acting "pettily" in the process. Ramesh asserted that the Modi administration has a "single point agenda" that involves denying, misrepresenting, disparaging, and obliterating Nehru and the Nehruvian legacy.
Ramesh criticised the name of the illustrious organisation, saying it revealed Modi's anxieties, complexes, and insecurities, particularly in relation to Nehru. The alteration, in his words, was a representation of "pettiness and peeve." Ramesh highlighted Nehru's vital contributions to the liberation fight as well as his part in establishing India's democratic, secular, scientific, and liberal underpinnings. He claimed that Modi and his backers were attacking Nehru's legacy but voiced faith in the enduring power of Nehru's inspiration and legacy.
Manickam Tagore, a congressman, added his voice to the criticism by posting an old video of Atal Bihari Vajpayee discussing his concerns with regard to the removal of Nehru's portrait from South Block while he served as external affairs minister.
