Lalu plays Seema Aunty to Rahul, advises him to get married

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, received a parental reprimand from RJD's Lalu Prasad on Friday for refusing to get married. Rahul Gandhi was also reminded by Prasad that his delay in getting married had upset his mother, Sonia Gandhi.

Lalu Prasad entertained the delegates and the media with his distinctive sense of humor. He was the last of the galaxy of opposition leaders to speak at the press conference following the much-anticipated opposition meet.

"You do not heed our advice to get married," said Prasad, the leader of the RJD. He also complimented Gandhi, 53, for wearing a half-sleeved shirt, calling it the ideal match to the "Modi kurta".

"Baat maaniye, shaadi kariye", said Prasad, adding "Your mummy keeps fretting over your refusal to get married".

"We would like to be a part of your wedding procession (baraat)” Prasad spoke, sparking giggles from those in the audience and a modest smile from Gandhi.

Replying to his statement, Rahul said, “If you say so, it will happen (Aaapne Kehdia toh hojaega).”

However, the seasoned politician wasn't all laughter and lightheartedness; he also praised Gandhi for the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" and criticized the Narendra Modi government at the Centre for eliminating Rs 2,000 notes less than ten years after they were issued as a result of demonetization.

Chief Ministers of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Bhagwant Mann, Tamil Nadu MK Stalin, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, MP Sanjay Raut, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were present.
