Karnataka launches Gruha Lakshmi scheme

On August 30, in Mysuru, the Congress Government launched Gruha Lakshmi, the eagerly anticipated guarantee program offering 2,000 rupees in cash assistance to women who are the heads of families in Karnataka.

The scheme was introduced by Congress Member Rahul Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge during a ceremony at Maharaja's College that was presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

After Mr. Kharge gave the event its official start, Rahul Gandhi launched the program by pressing a button on an electronic tablet that officials had given him.

After the program's introduction, Gandhi stated that the thousands of Karnataka women who had signed up for the program would receive financial aid.

He continued by saying, “The women heads of families will start receiving ₹2,000 every month,” and declaring that the Gruha Lakshmi scheme is the country’s largest money transfer scheme.

At the launch, a number of Cabinet members, including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, who oversees the Mysuru district, and Minister for Public Works Satish Jarkiholi, were present.
