The Karnataka government is stuck in a crunch situation when the union government indirectly puts some restrictions on the ongoing program of the Karnataka government. After winning the election in Karnataka, Congress is now on its way to fulfilling the promises it made before the polls. The Anna Bhagya program is a part of it. Through this scheme, people from specific categories would get free rice but the Centre ordered the Food Corporation of India to stop selling rice under the open market to some states.
Under the Anna Bhagya scheme, the Karnataka government offers 10 kg of free rice to members below the poverty line and members of Antyodata card holders. Distribution would start from 1st of July. But within just a day after the approval of 13,819 metric tones of rice by FCI, the order came to discontinue the sale under the open market.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clearly stated his opinion saying, "This is a conspiracy by the Modi government against Karnataka. The Modi government is always being anti-Karnataka."
The Union government is already providing 5kg of free rice per head and Karnataka just wanted to add 5 more to each head. But after this letter by FCI, the Congress government in Karnataka has a big question mark as they need to procure rice.
