Siddaramaiah took the oath of office as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on Saturday, a week after the Congress' landslide victory in the Karnataka assembly elections. DK Shivakumar served as his deputy. Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met with senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Friday to discuss all potential cabinet members and invite the Congress high command to today's oath-taking ceremony. The head of the Congress Legislature Party, Siddaramaiah, wrote to the governor of Karnataka to ask him to swear in eight MLAs as Cabinet Ministers.
