Jitu Patwari has been chosen as the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president, effective immediately, by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. Patwari took over for outgoing PCC president Kamal Nath upon his induction.
The event occurred a few days following the party's humiliating loss to unseat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, where the Congress, led by Nath, was soundly defeated. According to sources, shortly after the poll results were announced, Nath was requested to submit his resignation.
"I will not be retiring. Until the day I die, I shall stay by your side. Watch how much your power costs increase under the BJP administration!" stated Kamal Nath.
After meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge, the head of the party, Nath submitted his resignation. An official statement from the party stated, "The Congress president has appointed Shri Jitu Patwari as the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, effective immediately."
The party also said that it was grateful for the contributions made by the departing PCC president, Shri Kamal Nath. "The Congress president has also approved the proposal of the appointment of Shri Umang Singhar as the CLP leader and Shri Hemant Katare as the deputy leader of Madhya Pradesh," stated the statement.
