Jet Engines and Nuclear Technology Take Center Stage in PM Modi-Biden Meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden are set to hold bilateral talks during the G20 Summit in New Delhi. The meeting is significant as it comes just two months after PM Modi's state visit to the US. The leaders are expected to focus on fast-tracking promises made during Modi's visit and reviewing projects announced in Washington. However, no major announcements are expected to be made during the talks.

President Biden is expected to discuss how the US can deliver for developing countries and make progress on key priorities such as climate and technology. The US has previously supported India's proposal to include the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.

The GE jet engine deal and civil nuclear technology are expected to be two of the most important things talked about. The US company General Electric (GE) and the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) made a deal earlier this year to make engines for the fighter jets of the Indian Air Force together in India. As part of the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 project, the two countries could work together to make GE Aerospace's F414 engines. This is part of the agreement.

In addition to the jet engine deal, GE has also made significant investments in India's military. HAL continues to assemble GE F404 engines for the Tejas, the country's light combat aircraft.

On the commercial side, Air India recently announced a major aircraft purchase, including planes powered by engines built by GE and CFM International. This deal signals the recovery of commercial aviation after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overall, the bilateral talks between PM Modi and President Biden are expected to focus on advancing key projects and strengthening the partnership between India and the US.
