Jamia Students Arrested for Watching BBC Documentary on Prime Minister Modi: A Tale of Suppression or Justice?

Offical Notice

The screening of the BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi on Wednesday sparked chaos when the police arrived to detain several students. The documentary, titled 'India: The Modi Question', has been banned from streaming or being shared on social media due to its critical look into the Prime Minister and his role in Indian politics.

The university administration denied any permission to screen the documentary, and the police detained 13 students. This incident comes days after the police in Delhi were awarded medals for their involvement in a gun battle and terror fight.

The Jamia Millia Islamia University students had planned to screen the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 6 pm on Wednesday, despite warnings from the university administration.

SFI Protest for detaing students during movie screening

Tensions have flared at two of India's most prominent universities over the screening of the documentary, and police have been deployed to Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi to prevent any unauthorized gatherings. The video will be shown at the MCRC lawn gate number 8 starting at 6 pm, according to a poster created by the Students' Federation of India (SFI).

Despite the government's efforts to block the documentary on YouTube and Twitter, the students remain determined to screen the documentary.
