A request for President Droupadi Murmu to mark the official opening of the new Parliament building was denied by the Supreme Court. Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha rejected the appeal, which asked the top court to give the Lok Sabha Secretariat instructions.
In violation of the constitution, the statement made by the Lok Sabha Secretariat and the invitations sent by the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha to the inauguration event, it is claimed, the President has the authority to prorogue or dissolve Parliament or call a special session of that body.
The Opposition, which is made up of 20 parties and is united, chose to boycott the inauguration amid a major controversy between the BJP-controlled Centre and the Opposition. Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, said that the opening of the new structure is a celebration of democracy and should not lead to conflict.
Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, said that the opposition must respect the temple of democracy and that they should attend the event. Additionally, Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, urged all parties to reconsider their choice.
