Gautam Adani's sudden meeting with Sharad Pawar fuels rampant speculation online

A noteworthy event was the meeting on Thursday in Mumbai between the business tycoon and chair of the Adani Group Gautam Adani and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.

Adani arrived by car at Pawar's mansion Silver Oak in Mumbai's Breach Candy neighborhood, where the two engaged in a secret discussion for a few hours. We don't yet know what happened at the Pawar-Adani meeting.

The conference gains relevance in light of recent occurrences involving the NCP in Maharashtra, including rumors that Ajit Pawar, the leader of the opposition in the assembly and Pawar's nephew, may have switched to or supported the BJP alongside his group.

The Pawar uncle-nephew, however, had vehemently denied it, and only a few days ago, they were both spotted together at an event. The last time Pawar and Adani interacted was on June 16, 2022, when the founder of the Adani Group, which has its headquarters in Ahmedabad, launched the research park at the Agricultural Development Trust in Baramati, Pune. Pawar has served as the chief minister of Maharashtra four times and has served three terms as a minister in the Union.

He has also gone to the graduation of the "Sharad Pawar Inspire Fellowship in Agriculture" boot camp. The whole Pawar family was there, including Pawar Senior, Pawar Junior, who is an MLA from Baramati and served as the state's deputy chief minister at the time, as well as his daughter Supriya Sule, a Baramati MP, and his grand-nephew Rohit Pawar, an MLA for Karjat-Jamkhed.

However, this visit has a history because Pawar Senior recently broke with Congress and the Opposition parties and expressed his concerns over a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the Adani Group-Hindenburg Report controversy.

In a TV interview and later conversation with media persons, Pawar said, "Even though my party has supported the JPC, I feel that JPC will be dominated by the ruling party thus the truth will not come out. I feel that a Supreme Court-monitored panel is a better way to bring out the truth." In the past, we would mention Tata Birla whenever we criticize the current administration. We no longer use these names.

Although Adani Ambani has made more contributions to the country's growth than Tata, people are still dealing with more pressing challenges including unemployment, rising prices, and issues with farmers. But subsequently, in a U-turn, Pawar said: "We have to be unified in this. A friend's perspective could differ from mine. I gave my viewpoint. I won't, however, object if my colleagues believe that a JPC investigation is necessary. I may disagree with their viewpoint, but I won't let it weaken the opposition.
