Delhi Police have booked Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on trespassing charges after a protest outside and inside Akashvani Bhawan in Central Delhi. Police say a case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
What we know about the FIR
According to a police officer quoted by The Indian Express, the FIR has been registered under the relevant sections at Parliament Street Police Station. The two leaders are accused of entering the Akashvani Bhawan premises, home to All India Radio, during Tuesday's protest. The complaint relates to the march against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police have not yet made the specific sections public in the report we have seen.
How the protest unfolded
Around 200 MPs from the INDIA bloc had called for a march from Makar Dwar at Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters. Congress leaders led it. The group got only about 700 metres along Parliament Street before barricades stopped them at Akashvani Bhawan.
The protesters were objecting to alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Reports say the Gandhis and other leaders held a sit-in of about seven hours inside the premises before police detained them.

Why the Akashvani Bhawan protest matters
The case adds a legal dimension to an already heated political row over the electoral roll revision. Trespassing is a relatively limited charge, but an FIR against two of the opposition's most prominent faces is likely to draw reaction from both sides. At the time of writing, we have no response from Congress or the Delhi Police beyond the officer's statement.
What happens next
The investigation is at an early stage. It remains to be seen whether police will summon the leaders or other protesters, or whether others who took part in the sit-in will also be named. We will update this article as new details come in.
