Finland's main conservative party won a controversial parliamentary election on Sunday, with right-wing populists coming in second. With all votes counted on Sunday, the centre-right National Coalition Party (NCP) took the lead with 20.8%. The Social Democratic Party of Prime Minister Sanna Marin finished third, ending her chances of winning re-election. With 20.1% of the vote, the right-wing populist party The Finns took second place, while the Social Democrats came in third with 19.9%.

When Marin, 37, took office in 2019, she was the youngest prime minister in history. Her followers all over the world view her as a millennial role model for progressive new leaders, but she has been criticized at home for her partying and her government's spending on public goods.
