Court Rejects Bail for AAP MP Sanjay Singh in Liquor Policy Case

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party was denied bail on Friday by the Delhi Rouse Avenue court in connection with a money laundering case involving the now-canceled Delhi liquor excise scheme 2021–2022. Rajya Sabha MP Singh's request for bail was denied by Special Judge M K Nagpal.

The court delayed the proceedings earlier on Thursday and set December 22 for the decision regarding Singh's bail application.

Court Rejects Bail for AAP MP Sanjay Singh in Liquor Policy Case

The Enforcement Directorate denied Singh's appeal, alleging that if he was granted bail, there would be interference. The ED claims that AAP MP Singh, who was arrested on October 4, had a major part in the 2021–2022 excise policy that was abolished. Singh disputes this, claiming that the program helped certain liquor firms financially. He disputes any misconduct.

In its first chargesheet in the case, the ED revealed details of more than 200 search operations carried out last year. Acting upon the chief secretary's July report, the lieutenant governor of Delhi suggested the opening of a CBI case, and thus the FIR was filed. Prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act of 1991, the Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR) of 1993, the Delhi Excise Act of 2009, and the Delhi Excise Rules of 2010 were noted in this report.
