Chief of National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma took oath as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the 2nd consecutive term on March 7. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Raj Bhavan in Shillong, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda.
The oath was administered by Meghalaya governor Phagu Chauhan. The 12-member council including the CM, two deputy CMs and 9 ministers took their oaths on Tuesday.
The NPP-led alliance secured the support of 45 MLAs giving it a clear majority. Of the 45 MLAs, 26 are from NPP itself, 11 are from UDP, 2 are from BJP, 2 are from HSPDP, 2 are from PDF and 2 are independent MLAs.
While NPP and BJP formed a coalition government in the previous terms, both parties fought the 2023 elections individually.
