Suresh Kashyap, who is the BJP president of Himachal Pradesh state and also a Lok Sabha member from Shimla, submitted his resignation to the national BJP chief JP Nadda in New Delhi. This move has opened up the path for the selection of a new party chief.

He was elected to the Assembly from Pachhad in 2012. He was re-elected to the Vidhan Sabha in 2017 and resigned from the Legislative Assembly on June 5, 2019, after his election to the Lok Sabha. Kashyap was elected as the state party's president in May 2020. He took over for Dr Rajiv Bindal, who resigned in May 2020. After its debacle in the state assembly, the BJP is expected to rearrange its organizational framework in Himachal Pradesh.
