The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its intention to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and introduce National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Karnataka if it is voted back into power during the May 10 assembly polls. The UCC would provide a uniform set of laws regarding personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and succession for all citizens, instead of the religion-based civil codes currently in place. Additionally, the BJP manifesto promises the creation of a special police wing to fight against religious fundamentalism and terrorism, as well as the speedy deportation of illegal immigrants through the NRC. BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda has stated that the party's vision for Karnataka is "justice to all and appeasement to none." In addition to these promises, the BJP manifesto also pledges to provide free cooking gas cylinders and subsidised food, among other benefits. The Congress is expected to unveil its manifesto on Tuesday.
