BJP Labels Congress ‘Gaaliwadi’ Over Viral AI Video of Modi’s Mother

The political battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress has taken a new turn after the Bihar Congress unit posted an AI-generated video depicting a dream sequence involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. The 36-second clip, marked “AI GENERATED”, portrays Modi’s mother scolding him over his political actions.

The video, captioned “Maa appears in sahab’s dreams”, has ignited a major controversy, drawing fierce criticism from the BJP, which has described it as deeply disrespectful, insensitive, and an insult not only to the Prime Minister but to mothers and women across the country.

BJP Labels Congress ‘Gaaliwadi’ Over Viral AI Video of Modi’s Mother

BJP Reacts Strongly: “Congress Has Become Gaaliwadi”

Soon after the video surfaced, BJP leaders launched a scathing attack on the Congress.

  • Shehzad Poonawalla, BJP’s national spokesperson, accused the Congress of repeatedly insulting the Prime Minister’s late mother. He said: “The Congress party is once again insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. This is no longer the Congress of Gandhi; it has become a Congress of Gaali.”

  • Pradeep Bhandari, another national spokesperson, alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was behind the move. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Congress under Rahul Gandhi continues its insult of Honourable PM @narendramodi ji's mother. People of Bihar will give a befitting response to RJD & Congress that mock mothers and sisters of Bihar.”

In a video statement, Bhandari went further, calling the party’s leadership a “Shahi Parivar” (royal family) and accusing them of harboring hatred for the poor and women of India.

Similarly, Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, BJP MP, called the incident “a new low in politics,” adding that Modi has always kept his family away from political life. He vowed to take the matter to the Election Commission of India, terming the video both misleading and insulting.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla doubled down, saying the Congress had “crossed all limits” and had turned into a “Gaaliwadi party instead of Gandhiwadi”.

Fresh Row After Previous Abuse Allegations

This is not the first time Prime Minister Modi and his late mother’s name have been dragged into political controversy.

In August 2024, during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, Bihar, a video allegedly showed Congress-RJD supporters shouting abusive slogans targeting both PM Modi and his mother. The visuals, with Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in the backdrop, sparked massive outrage within the BJP.

At that time, Prime Minister Modi himself had responded strongly during a video conference with women entrepreneurs in Bihar, attended by nearly 20 lakh women.

He said:

“The slang used at a Congress-RJD rally was not just for my mother, but for crores of mothers and sisters. Princes born in royal families won’t understand the struggles of an underprivileged mother and her son.”

He further added:

“I want to tell those who abused my mother in front of the people of Bihar—Modi might forgive you once, but the land of Bihar and India has never tolerated insult to a mother.”

The remarks had triggered widespread anger, with the NDA women’s wing in Bihar organizing a five-hour bandh in protest, calling the abuse an insult to women’s dignity across the state.

Opposition Counters With Double Standards Allegation

While the BJP has mounted attacks on the Congress over the AI video, the Opposition has hit back, accusing the Prime Minister of hypocrisy.

RJD leader Rohini Acharya pointed out that Modi himself had previously made disparaging remarks about Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi.

She said:

“Yes, Prime Minister is right. No one has the right to abuse anyone’s mother or sister. The same thing applies to him too. He has not apologised for his words to this day. Bihar’s daughter was insulted during the elections.”

BJP Accuses Congress of Exploiting Deepfake Technology

The BJP has also raised concerns about the use of AI and deepfake technology in political propaganda, warning that such tactics can mislead the public and dangerously lower the level of discourse.

Radha Mohan Das Agrawal condemned the use of AI, saying:

“Prime Minister Modi has always kept politics separate from family life. It is painful that the Congress first abused the Prime Minister’s mother and is now using deepfake technology to mislead the country and insult all mothers.”

Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore also called the video “highly condemnable”. Speaking to ANI, he said frustrated political parties often resort to “cheap tactics” when they lose ground.

“Sometimes they use indecent words in the name of PM Modi’s mother. Congress has done mimicry by uploading this video on its state handle, and this is highly condemnable. In politics, when someone gets disappointed or frustrated, they resort to cheap tactics. Whatever condemnable acts Congress has done, society will also condemn them and teach them a lesson,” he said.

Larger Implications: Bihar Elections in Spotlight

The controversy is unfolding at a sensitive time, with the Bihar Assembly elections looming large. Analysts believe that the uproar could sharpen political polarization in the state, especially as women voters play a decisive role.

The BJP has already indicated that it will escalate the matter both legally and politically. Party leaders have vowed to hold the Congress accountable, claiming the video is a calculated insult designed to sway sentiments ahead of the polls.

On the other hand, Congress leaders maintain that the BJP is selectively outraging while ignoring the Prime Minister’s own past comments against women leaders.

Final Thoughts

The AI-generated video controversy has reignited a bitter war of words between the BJP and the Congress, with PM Modi’s late mother, Heeraben Modi, once again at the center of political mudslinging.

While the BJP calls it an attack on all mothers and women of India, the Opposition accuses the ruling party of double standards. With Bihar elections approaching, the row is expected to dominate the political discourse in the coming weeks.

One thing is clear: the use of AI and deepfake technology has opened a troubling new front in Indian politics, where personal lives and family members are increasingly being dragged into the electoral battlefield.
