Bihar’s newly-inducted 9 member Cabinet got Portfolios allocated today by Nitish Kumar, who became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 9th Time taking oath on January 28th, doing a major flip, dumping the INDIA Alliance, and forming a coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
CM Nitish while retaining the Home Department, reinforcing his oversight of state police, also kept many key responsibilities such as Cabinet Secretariat, Election, Vigilance, General Administration, and "all other portfolios not allocated to anyone else."
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, from BJP, has been alloted the Finance portfolio, a department that BJP always keep with themselves during power-sharing agreements with the JD(U). Chaudhary has also been assigned key areas like Health, Sports, Commercial Tax, Urban Development, Housing, Panchayati Raj, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Law.
Another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, also from the BJP, will oversee nine departments, including Agriculture, Road Construction, Revenue and Land Reforms, Mining and Geology, Sugarcane, Labour Resources, Art, Culture and Youth Affairs, Minor Water Resources, and Public Health Engineering.
The third Cabinet Member from BJP, Senior leader Prem Kumar will oversee Cooperatives, OBC and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare, Disaster Management, Tourism, and Environment and Climate Change.
JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary retains parliamentary affairs and takes charge of Water Resources, Transport, Building Construction, Education, and Information and Public Resources Department.
Veteran JD(U) leader Bijendra Yadav retains his transformative role in the power sector, will also handle Excise and Prohibition, Planning and Development, Rural Works, and Minority Welfare.
Another JD(U) leader Shravan Kumar allocated Rural Welfare, Social Welfare, and Food and Consumer Affairs.
Santosh Kumar Suman from the Hindustani Awam Morcha oversees SC and ST Welfare and Information Technology.
Independent MLA Sumit Kumar Singh, Nitish Kumar loyalist, continues his role in Science, Technology, and Technical Education.
