A video of the polling officers in Himachal Pradesh went viral as they were navigating their path through the snow-capped mountains after returning from the Chasak Batori polling station which is situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft. They were carrying EVMs and VVPATs for 6 hours as they covered a distance of 15 km.
The polling officials were returning from the Bharmaur Assembly Constituency’s Chasak Batori polling station which is in the Pangi area of the Chamba district. They had to take a walk after voting for the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections which ended at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
There were a total of 93 registered voters at the Batori polling station which is situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft. While facilitating the last-minute call of voting the voters walked through a thick wave of snow blanket carrying the EVMs and VVPATs to reach the polling station.
The video tweeted by the ANI news agency said that the officials were seen wearing heavy clothing and with no help were carrying the heavy election equipment with them. The election held for the 68 seats in Himachal Pradesh recorded a voter turnout of around 66%. The results of the assembly polls will be declared on December 8.
The world’s largest turnout of around 98.08% was recorded in the polling booth of Lahaul and Spiti's Tashigang in the state. 51 out of the 52 registered voters stepped out to elect a new government. At a height of 15,256 feet, the polling station in Tashigang was made a Model Polling station to make it easier for the voters. 55,92,828 electors decided the fate of 412 candidates in the state.
