In light of the Congress party's victory in the Karnataka assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his congratulations. He also complimented the BJP's staff for their tireless efforts on the party's campaign.
With the fall of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai soon after the Congress lead surpassed 130 seats, the BJP lost its lone stronghold in the south today.
Basavaraj Bommai will resign as the state's chief minister this evening as the BJP loses power in Karnataka.
Bommai had previously in the day accepted defeat and said the performance had fallen short of expectations.
In the meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi stated during a press conference held at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, “Nafrat ki bazaar band ho gayi hai, Mohabbat ki dukaan khul gayi hai.”(Market of hatred has shut down, shop of love has opened).
The Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Janata Dal (Secular) engaged in a fierce democratic battle.
The Congress' victory in Karnataka brought back optimism among the state's hijab-wearing students, who are now addressing for the party to abolish the state's hijab prohibition.
Last year, Rahul Gandhi spoke out against the ban on the hijab, saying: “By letting students’ hijab come in the way of their education, we are robbing the future of the daughters of India. Ma Saraswati gives knowledge to all. She doesn’t differentiate.”
