Pune Porsche Case: Bombay HC says ‘Teen is in Trauma’, Pune Court Grants Bail to Father

On Friday, The Bombay High Court expressed concerns over the Pune police's handling of the bail granted to the teenage accused in the Pune Porsche accident, while hearing Teen’s Aunt filed a plea seeking release of the boy from observation home.

The court said, "Two people have lost their lives. There was trauma but the child (juvenile) was also in trauma, give him some time.”

The teen, initially granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board and placed under parental supervision, was later remanded to an observation home under public pressure, which was criticised by the division court comprising Justices Bharti Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande.

He is a person who has been granted bail, but now he has been confined to an observation home. Is this not confinement? We would like to know your source of power," the bench asked.

Advocate Aabad Ponda, representing the teen's aunt, argued that it was illegal and violated the boy’s fundamental rights, while the Chief Public Prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar defended the police's actions, saying that evidence was tampered and also there is a need for a strong societal message.

The bench reserved its order on the aunt's plea and said the order would be passed on June 25.
