Cold wave in Delhi as temp drops to 3.6, red alert issued

According to the IMD, a red alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Because of the extreme cold and thick fog in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert. 

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert due to the cold and heavy fog in Aya Nagar, Delhi, making it the second coldest night of winter.

As the cold wave that was sweeping the Delhi-NCR continued, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 3.9 degrees Celsius last night. According to the IMD, the lowest temperature was 3.4 degrees in Lodi Road, 3.6 in Safdarjung, 3.9 in Ridge, and 5.8 in Palam. 

Eighteen Delhi-bound trains and flight operations have been delayed by 1-6 hours due to weather-related conditions and low visibility at the Delhi airport.

Delhi experienced a thick layer of fog at Safdarjung Observatory, with visibility at 200 meters at 5:30 am. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 365 at 9 am, with AQIs ranging from zero to 50. Red alerts were issued in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, while yellow alerts were issued in Rajasthan due to cold and foggy conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported visibility at 200 meters at 5:30 am.

Since it seems doubtful that the cold wave conditions will end, the weather service has also issued a yellow advisory for the national capital for the next three days. According to the IMD, today's high is projected to be about 19 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported dense fog in isolated pockets in Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Gangetic West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, while moderate fog was observed in West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
