COP 29 ROLL OUT: SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES TO BE INCORPORATED IN YOUR DAILY LIFE ON THIS EVE

We should incorporate sustainable practices in daily life on the eve of COP29. A sustainable lifestyle can be easily achieved by making changes in our food habits, transportation, sanitation, hobbies, shopping habits and energy consumption patterns. It is time we find sustainable solutions and become Pro-Planet People.

The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024. Nations around the world will take new climate change actions. Rather than being a passive recipient of this event, take a few initiatives and actively contribute to a sustainable future.

Change the Element:

Use of steel and bamboo products over plastic products.

Steel products: Plate, Re-usable straw, Lunch box, Water bottle

Bamboo products: Toothbrush, Comb, Basket

Change Your Food Habit:

Try eating less processed and packaged food to reduce packaging waste.

Try to have one less meat-based diet at least once a week to reduce carbon emissions.

Change the Transportation:

Shift to walking or cycling to cover less distance. Improve the environment and your health at the same time.

Give preference to public transportation.

If you are compelled to use private transportation, try to use electronic vehicles.

Change in Sanitation:

Use of a bucket and tumbler to take a bath to reduce water use.

Use clothing napkins and handkerchiefs.

Girls can shift to menstrual cups from regular pads. Save the nature and your money at the same time.

Change Your Hobby:

Take gardening as a new hobby.

Compost your food waste and use it as manure for your plant.

Change Your Shopping Habits:

Buy necessary elements in bulk to reduce packaging waste.

Use reusable bags while shopping to reduce plastic waste.

Look at the product description before buying anything and go for eco-friendly products.

Shop from local markets and support the small vendors.

Rather than buying new clothes every time, rent clothes for special events.

Opt for digital receipts over paper receipts.

More use of digital payment in the digital era.

Most importantly, avoid mindless shopping and say no to over-consumption.

Change the Energy Consumption Pattern:

Maximize the use of natural daylight by changing your sleep cycle and rearranging your furniture.

Try to install solar panels on your rooftop and welcome renewable energy in your household.

Change Your Lifestyle:

Carry your water bottle and refill it to reduce plastic waste.

Segregate your waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable elements for better waste management.

Use a pressure cooker to reduce fuel use.

Donate your old clothes.

Make DIY products from waste materials.

Start incorporating these practices in your daily life to become a Pro-Planet People. Next year, when you read about COP30, you will be proud of yourself for being a responsible citizen.
