Zelenskiy's Proposal for NATO Security

In an interview, Zelenskiy said that bringing territories now controlled by Ukraine under the security umbrella of NATO might be the end of the active phase of war. "If we want to stop the hot stage of war, we should take under NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control," he said. That is what we need to do quickly," Zelenskiy said. He noted, "it's a bit easier for diplomatic efforts to gain back this remaining territory".

NATO countries have been skeptical of Ukraine's membership aspirations based on NATO's mutual defense clause, as they would eventually be involved militarily if the current conflict between them and Russia escalates.
