Why India Gifted 43 Jersey Cows to Bhutan | Indo-Bhutan Relations Explained

India Gave Bhutan 43 Special Jersey Cows. But Why? 🇮🇳🤝🇧🇹🐄

India didn’t just send financial assistance to Bhutan. This time, it sent 43 special Jersey cows. But there’s a bigger story behind it.

On September 16, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar handed over the cows to Bhutan as part of efforts to support better breeding and milk production, benefiting around 40,000 farmers.

India and Bhutan have shared a development partnership for decades, with cooperation spanning hydropower, healthcare, connectivity and agriculture.

India has also supported Made-in-India electric vehicles, a new mother-and-child hospital and connectivity projects in Bhutan.

For Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan, India has committed ₹10,000 crore in development assistance.

From energy and agriculture to EVs, digital payments and connectivity, the partnership continues to expand.

The cows may be just 43, but the potential impact reaches thousands of farmers. 🐄🌱

This is what long-term cooperation can look like: helping today while building for tomorrow. 🇮🇳🤝🇧🇹
