Sotheby's has announced that they will be auctioning what is being hailed as "the most sought-after Scotch whisky" next month, with an estimated price of up to 1.2 million pounds ($1.4 million).
The highly esteemed bottle, a 96-year-old single malt from Macallan distillery famously called The Macallan Adami 1926, will be showcased in London on Nov. 18, with an estimated value surpassing 750,000 pounds. Starting from Nov. 1, we are pleased to welcome early bids.
In 2019, an astonishing sale was made by Sotheby's, where a variant of The Macallan 1926 was sold for an impressive 1.5 million pounds, setting an unprecedented record in the world of wine or spirits. The remarkable occurrence of three unique bottle variations of this whisky being presented in auctions throughout 2018 and 2019 led to the record being surpassed on three distinct occasions.
“The Macallan 1926 is the one whiskey that every auctioneer wants to sell and every collector wants to own,” expressed Johnny Fowle, Head of Sotheby’s Global Spirits Department, “The Macallan 1926 is the one whiskey that every auctioneer wants to sell and every collector wants to own. I’m very excited to be bringing a bottle to a Sotheby’s auction for the first time since we have “The record for this race was set four years ago.”
After being aged in sherry casks for more than six decades, a limited quantity of 40 bottles of The Macallan 1926 were carefully crafted, making them the most esteemed vintage from the distillery.
As per Sotheby's, it has been noted that a portion of the 40 bottles were exclusively offered to Macallan clients, with as many as 14 elegantly adorned with Macallan's renowned Fine and Rare label, which includes the previous record-holder. Within this collection, twelve bottles, including the one scheduled for sale in the upcoming month, have had their labels thoughtfully crafted by the esteemed Italian painter Valerio Adami.
It is worth mentioning that the bottle being offered for sale has received careful restoration by the distillery prior to the auction. This involved replacing the cork and applying new adhesive to the corners of the bottle labels.
In conclusion, this remarkable auction of The Macallan Adami 1926 is set to be a truly significant occasion in the realm of spirits, providing collectors with an unparalleled chance to acquire a piece of whisky history. The meticulous restoration process highlights our dedication to safeguarding the heritage of this exceptional vintage. We highly recommend not letting this opportunity pass you by, as it would be a privilege to have you as part of this momentous event.
