Sherika De Armas, former Miss World, dies at 26 from cervical cancer

Sherika De Armas, a former Miss World Contestant who represented Uruguay in the 2015 competition, passed away on October 13 at the age of 26 after bravely battling cervical cancer, as reported by the New York Post. She had undergone both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

Her passing resonated deeply in Uruguay and across the globe. Mayk' De Armas, her brother, expressed on social media, "Soar high, dear sister. Forever and always." Carla Romero, Miss Universe Uruguay 2022, lamented that Ms De Armas was "too advanced for this world – one of the most stunning women I've ever encountered in my life."

"I will always remember you, not only for all the support you gave me and how much you wanted to see me grow but for your affection, your joy, the friends we shared and that remain with me today", Lola de los Santos, Miss Uruguay 2021, stated while paying tribute.

At the 2015 Miss World competition held in China, the 26-year-old did not make it to the top 30. Nonetheless, she stood out as one of only six contestants who were 18 years old at the time. In addition to her modelling career, she established her own makeup line and offered a range of hair and personal care products under the brand Shey de Armas Studio. She also dedicated her efforts to the Perez Scremini Foundation, an organization focused on caring for children with cancer.

The World Health Organization reports that cervical cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer among women.
