On September 7, 2023, in Jakarta, Indonesia the Prime Minister attended both the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS) and the 20th ASEAN-India Summit.
The Prime Minister held in-depth conversations with ASEAN partners during the ASEAN-India Summit about how to further develop the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and determine its future direction. PM Narendra Modi highlighted the connections between India's Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN's Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and reiterated ASEAN's centrality in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, he underlined the necessity of completing the ASEAN-India FTA (AITIGA) review in a timely manner.
PM Modi said "Our history and geography unite India and ASEAN. Along with it, our shared values, regional integration, and our shared belief in peace, prosperity, and a multipolar world also unite us. ASEAN is the central pillar of India's Act East Policy. India supports ASEAN's outlook on ASEAN-India centrality and Indo-Pacific," in Hindi.
“This is a testament to the strength and resilience of our relationship. The theme of this year’s ASEAN Summit is ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.’ ASEAN matters because here everyone’s voice is heard, and ASEAN is the epicenter of growth because the ASEAN region plays a crucial role in global development,” He added
Speaking on the G20 Summit PM Narender Modi stated “'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – one earth, one family, one future, this sentiment is also the theme of India’s G-20 Presidency,”
